Winegrower cooperatives

In accordance with the provisions set out in the Rural Code (Art. L521.1 and R521-1), wine cooperatives are regularly certified as type 1 agricultural cooperatives for “sales protection”.

Winegrower cooperatives are set apart in a special category, and are often analysed according to industrial risk by insurance companies.

When a winegrower becomes part of the cooperative, a cooperative contract is thus signed and one of the commitments consists in delivering the harvested crop. The remuneration of cooperative members is thus directly dependent on this delivery.

To avoid shortcomings in grape production, winegrowers can also individually take out insurance to cover climatic hazards.

Shortcomings in grape production

Conversely, to protect themselves against a lack of grapes, winegrower cooperatives may take out an insurance policy for “SHORTCOMINGS IN GRAPE PRODUCTION”.
